 wifi connection?
« Thread Started on Nov 7, 2011, 5:00pm »

Is wifi supposed to autoconnect just like eth0 or do I have to do something special to make it work? I have a broadcom 4318 and tried installing the b43 driver but couldn't get it to work so removed it and installed the windows .inf using ndiswrapper. The lights come on but no connection shows up in network manager.

I have a feeling you will still need to install the driver for Broadcom.

Left click the network manager Icon and see if your connection is recognized. If it is, then, click on the connection and it should ask you for your security password.

If your connection is not found, then, right click the icon and open "Edit Connections" Go to the WIFI Tab and "Add" From there on you have to enter the information manually.

Install the Broadcom Driver and reboot, then check it again, here is mine with WIFI running. If necessary I can guide you through the steps to manually install, but, you should get something like this:

under "wireless connection" it said "device not available, firmware missing." Now after installing b43, it just says "disconnected." So maybe the problem is I just can't get a signal here. Will try it at home where I know for certain there is a good signal.

If it says disconnected and shows your connection name, click on the name and enter your password for security. You may need to change it to WPA or WEP for the correct protocol.
