| | Salineos and Vmware (solved) « Thread Started on Jan 4, 2012, 2:22am » | |
I have installed SalineOS on a spare computer and my first impressions are 'what a great system' so much so that I wanted to install it as a vm on my Vmware Workstation 8 system so that I could easily add/change things without the prospect of a reinstall if things turned pearshape. The install went smoothly but then I ran into my first roadblock, I couldn't install Vmware tools, the tools install started and then just stopped in it's tracks, no error messages or error indications. This is one of the very few installs where the Tools installation has failed and as any vm person would know, without the tools installed the vm is pretty useless.
Has anyone had any success with installing SalineOS using Vmware and getting the Vmware Tools installed successfully. Would appreciate any help on this.

This problem was caused by my own stupidity, when installing SalineOS as the vm I inadvertently installed it as a Ubuntu 64 machine - after realising this error I recreated the vm as a Debian 6 64 machine and the install of vmware tools went as it should have.
Now to see how it works as a vm.

Nice to hear you worked it out. It sometimes helps me to "talk" out loud about a problem until I figure it out.
