I find the colored "ellipses" behind the icon labels to be very distracting. How can they be removed? I notice that some XFCE distros do not have them.

You mean the highlighting of menu entries or the little popups that come up when you mouse over a launcher on the panel? Both of these are functions of the theme you are using, if you want to remove them, I would recommend installing a theme that you know don't have them set.

Maybe it's about names beneath icons on the desktop, text there has some coloured background more or less (less than more ) in ellipse shape.

This is also a function of the theme.

If you mean the backgrounds on the Panel, then, Add Icon Box and remove Task List. That will give you just plain icons and takes up less space. Feedback would help us solve your problem @rperitsky.

If you want this :
![[image] [image]](http://pix.toile-libre.org/upload/thumb/1332927157.jpg) I hope this can be helpful for you :
And do you know you can also have the text of the XFCE desktop icons with a transparent background.
Just create the text file: mousepad ~ /. Gtkrc-2.0 and add this script :
Code:style "xfdesktop-icon-view" { XfdesktopIconView :: label-alpha = 0
# Text colors : you-can delete these if you want you use gtk theme colors fg [NORMAL] = "# ffffff" fg [SELECTED] = "# 00ff00" fg [ACTIVE] = "# 0000ff"
} widget_class "* XfdesktopIconView *" style "xfdesktop-icon-view"
