I tried it from a FedoraPeople repo. It did seem buggy, but I liked the changes like being able to edit session/startup applications instead of having to delete old and new.

I expect a lot of the bugs to be worked out when the Debian Xfce team uploads it to Sid. It should then migrate to testing where more bugs will be beaten with a stick. Finally it should make it to backports, where I can pull it into Saline testing ... And, perform further savage beatings to the bugs. Some waiting is in order, but Xfce 4.8 is definitely worth it.

@haikuhacker I'm not talking about hardware either. I don't have the time or the patience anymore to get the problems with WICD ironed out. I actually belong to and have had Distros with twelve forums on my my computer. Keeping up with the forums is a hobby of mine and I help out using the Live CDs/DVDs. I get tired of plugging my laptop into the router carrying a twenty five foot cable. If it were so easy I'd have learned it long ago. Each time they change a network manager I have problems. Sometimes I use my laptop for a desktop with external 21.5" Monitor and wireless keyboard, but then, the rest of the time it is just the laptop alone. Incidentally, nice new Avatar Haikuhacker.

Thanks beardedragon, my next Avatar will include a SalineOS beaker in front of the Arch arch, when Picasa sees fit to let me link to it.

This isn't Debian. Is this Debian ? ? ?
I thought this was Saline, but Saline uses the same Wicd as Debian.
So does Arch and every other distro that uses Wicd.

One distros set up may or may not work in another distro even for the same package. Your mileage may vary.

Maybe it's just me but the install and start seamed easier in Debian than Arch.

Agreed. I don't want go through installing either one from scratch again.
Archbang does all the configuring for Arch like Saline does for Debian.

I never thought Debian really had much to configure except Wireless Microcode for me, and that comes in a .deb. Just an awkward installer

I have an up-to-date SalineOS install on an 8 GiB USB. Really nice. Works like a charm on my EeePC. Just a couple of clicks, pass key for the router and up & running the first time --after that it just works.
Runs fine on the company AA1 D250 except for wireless. Just scans a bit and *=(U/=)(Y. 40 clicks and nothing. Tried most everything except the ndiswrapper. Going to have to try that next week. Really a let down. I know there must be a way. I've had it working before. Works fine on the silly WinXP, but I would like to not load it up with malware.
So thanks for all the suggestions. I'll see how it goes.
regards, Richard.

I have already gone into wireless options and put my network first. I have also deleted the networks I dont want, but a few days later they come back! Then they stop my computer connecting to my network. web conferencing service
