I too have a Wifi stick and it will not work with WICD. It's a different brand/model so it's not just your stick. Install network-manager-gnome from your Synaptic and use that, it will
recognize the Wifi stick right away. We are among the 5% that don't work with WICD.

Edit: You must have a wired connection to download the nmgnome.

Ok ! .. Ok ! ... thanks for your reply ! ...

it was just an experiment ! ... of course my ' router ' did crash two-times allready while I run ' chromium ' ! ...
when I shutoff ' chromium ' ... the connection came back right away ! ...

that's why I did try my USB-Wifi-Stick ! ...

by the way ... which Stick is working with ' Wicd ' ? ...
maybe it needs to install ' usb-modeswitch ' ? ...

I tried usb-modeswitch and it did not work for me. I have a Netgear WG111v3, it works on laptop or desktop and will work on Apple Macs.

Yeah ! ... the Question is ! ... which one don't work ... with the other ? ...

I mean ! ... is it the USB-Stick ? ... or is it ' Wicd ' ? ...

if it is ' Wicd ' ... I will replace it with ' network-manager ' ! ... (if possible) ...

If you have an internet connection on your netbook you can switch over to network manager really easy by running aptitude install network-manager-gnome as root. This is safe and effective, it just uses more resources. But, will probably become the default in future image builds since it fixes most the reported networking problems here in the forums.

First 'su' to become Root, your password will not be visible.
then 'aptitude install network-manager-gnome'

@casey972oo, Open Menu>System>Software Sources and change the "Download From:" to Main Server. See attached. Then try it again after closing and Reloading.
