How much system RAM do you have? When you suspend, it puts everything on the RAM drive.

I have 1500mb of ram, I don't think thats the problem, it needs a script to tell it how to suspend or hibernate.

It looks like you found a bug or something isn't installed because I get the same error message. I'm running Saline OS 1.1 64-bit, are you running 32 or 64?

You need the packages pm-utils and hibernate. This line will install them:
gksu aptitude install pm-utils hibernate

I will add them to the the next image builds so suspend works properly.

Synaptic also installs them. :) (for those, like me, who are less inclined to use a terminal )

Thanks Anthony. Sometimes I suspend my system, so this is good to know before I need it. ;D

Hi to all, I'm new to Saline OS but been a Debian user for years.

This is a topic I wish I understood better (one of many). I have been through a number of iterations of Debian installs from sid through sqeeeze (and predecessors) and the functionality of Suspend/Hibernate has been a question mark. It works on some distros and not on others. My current system is Sqeeze 6.01 and it does not work, even after installation of pm-utils and hibernate as suggested above. It works on my Mythbuntu 10.10 partition and it worked on my previous Mint Debian install...never worked on sidux/aptosid. Definitely NOT a ram issue here as I have 2G on this box

As soon as I can download an iso of Saline OS, I'll be trying it on a free partition.

Do you have a swap partition?

I do.

I will try the above on my fresh SalineOS install now...suspend did not work out of the box. Don't expect much difference from Squeeze but hope springs eternal...

Edit: Oh well, both already installed so back to square one.

Hi,

Is your swap activated ?
You can verify in Gparted (right click on swap partition =>Informations) or type in a terminal # swapon /dev/sdx (where sdx is your swap partition).
If you get : device is busy, that's good, swap is enabled.
If no answer : vérify UUID of the swap (type # blkid) and his UUID in /etc/fstab.
If not the same, edit fstab.
;)

You can also use the free command:
Code:
$ free

My output:

I am now convinced it is a kernel issue. I got wild and crazy experimenting with this new install and switched to testing sources and installed the latest Liquorix kernel using smxi to do the heavy lifting. Suspend now works great. The kernel that ships with Squeeze and SalineOS is the problem. It also works well with Mythbuntu 10.10...again a different kernel. Everything else seems to be working well...waiting for the other shoe to fall...

Oh, and yes, swap is there and busy.
