 Login and password?
« Thread Started on May 11, 2011, 6:47pm »

I'm running the new SalineOS 1.0 PSE on my Dell PowerEdge and I'm wondering what the login and password are?

They are whatever you set during installation. In the live environment there is one user named "user" and you can get administrative rights using sudo. After installation the user name and password is whatever you set and the root account is active with whatever you entered as the root password.

Download the installation manual (pdf) from the main site and read it thoroughly. It's not very long but it's a must read.

I should have been more clear, I booted the LiveCD and it asks for a login and password before the desktop loads.

Hmm, the only reason it would do that is Xorg failing to load. What image you using i386 or AMD64 and what video chipset does your laptop use?

No, no, it does load in graphical mode but at the screen where you can choose the language and session it asks for a login and password. The computer is a Dell PowerEdge 2500 server.

SalineOS uses the SLiM login manager, the default sessions is always loaded unless you type commands in the login box it presents (Commands that SLiM takes are documented in the manual). There should be no language setting presented to you in the SalineOS login screen. Something else is going on here? Are you sure you are booting from the SalineOS disk and not an installed system or a different OS disk?

The SalineOS login screen is a picture of an ocean wave and has only one box to it. It is very basic, but highly functional. Unless you need remote login which I consider a security risk in and of itself (Another reason I don't use GDM on SalineOS).

I ran the AMD64 Live CD and then Installed from there. At no time did it ask for the username/password with a login screen until it was installed. Before that there is one area when the diagnostics are running it pauses and the cursor flashes at the end of a line that says login, but, if you wait a few seconds this will bypass itself and continue to place the system in RAM. Try to wait this out to see if that is what is happening. You did not answer whether this is 32 or 64 bit system. That could be important information.

It's a 32bit system.

Try to let it bypass itself, I'm downloading the 32 bit and will check it out. Anthony does not have an ATI-AMD System to test this on at present.

I am at a lost I just booted the PSE image and it works fine. I am still wondering why you have session and language choices on the login screen. You should not have this at all on the SalineOS images.

Just downloaded, burned and started the Live 32bit PSE. No login, not even a chance to change sessions or language. What steps are you taking? Is this part of the BIOS of your Server?

Nice Pic. Okay, what system is installed on your server? Do you have to change anything in BIOS to startup from a CD? Do you use a Function key to startup from a CD? If you have a past system like PSE Dev5 on there, try the password you used before. That screen only comes up from an installed system.
