Thanks, Robert.

The main issue I have run into right now is the Application Menu (auto) update after installing programs.

For example, in order to support dual monitor, I installed "arandr". Somehow it was not in the menus but I can always start it from the terminal.

Then there is no screensaver pre-installed so I installed "gnome-screensaver" (my favorite is the cosmos one). Again, it cannot be found in any of the application menus but I can start by doing "gnome-screensaver-preferences" in the terminal. After I set the time, etc, I do not think it is working.

Since this is my second day on this, I might have over-looked some solutions. I tried to do search on the board but cannot find too much info.

Thanks,

You can place arandr in Applications>Settings>Sessions and Startup "Application Autostart" Tab and it will always be running. It is recommended you use the xscreensaver which will be showing up under Settings for your Preferences. Gnome screensaver usually carries extra baggage that you don't need for xfce. The choice is yours. You can find it in Synaptic and remove the gnome version at the same time. For time I usually install ntpdate if I forgot to click "No" during install for UTC time. It will work just as well.

Thanks for mentioning ntpdate. I did installed it because the clock (time) was wrong even after I set it right (the date command). Now with ntpdate, I think it is showing the correct time.

Hi, I'm a new user of linux period. I tried Mint latest with gnome first and even though it seemed nice, a couple issues caused me to delete it. I've tried ubuntu before but it never caught on with me. I recently tried vectorlinux7 xfce version but the latest iso uses lilo only and it does not work (lames). I dual boot with xp so I need a boot mgr and for the life of me could not figure out how to make it work. Plus it's forums are full of issues-something a newb avoids or should at all costs. I've actually installed saline 4 times. Each time I used my flash drive and Yumi (windows only I believe)-highly recommended. The only thing I have successfully compiled & installed so far is Minitube-also highly recommended for the occasional youtube jaunts.
I've lived in HI and would go back in a heartbeat. Currently in socal where i have lived for much of my life but plan on leaving the state within a few years. I don't game but I do enjoy movies and music-who doesn't? All I can say is if this distro is the work of a very few people or one person-AWESOME work!!! It lacks nothing and has not even a single bug as far as I'm concerned.
I'd also add, the simple to understand pdf guide is a real blessing for newbs like myself. ;)

Welcome to GNU/Linux, Debian and most of all SalineOS. ;D This is the only distro I recommend to new Linux users. My only gripe is no Iceweasel from backports but that is easy to fix when you know how. Another nice thing about installing SalineOS from the DVD/USB is it's faster than doing a Debian install over the internet or even with one of their CD/DVD I know why but that may be a bit deep for a newbie.

Enjoy!

Hello from another new SalineOS user!

I've been using SalineOS on my laptop for about 3 months now and I really like it.

A little background.. I've been using various linuxes for about 3 years now, doing the usual distro hopping. Mostly debian based stuff, ubuntu and variations of it with different DE's, mint, etc, also antix, puppy, pclinuxos, suse, crunchbang. Hated unity, its an abomination for a power user or even someone who likes a traditional desktop. I didn't care for gnome3 either. It seemed xfce was for me. Linux Mint LMDE was nice but testing branch was too much, I mean every time i booted up there were 100+ updates! wat!?

So I did my searching on distrowatch for debian/stable/xfce which brought me here.
I love the 1 click auto updater, and 1 click clear cache... brilliant!
So far Saline has been rock solid, fast booting, and fast shutdown. perfect!

Some notes on Sos-1.5:
Just installed 1.5 on my 1st generation Acer Aspire One.
Previous versions gave me trouble getting the Broadcom wireless to connect;
however, this version was up and running from the liveUSB.
Installed to the 150 GiB hard disk and now running perfectly from the hard disk with wireless.

Thanks again.

Broadcom always seems to be a problem in linux. :)

Broadcom networking cards and Intel video cards are the worst but Intel networking cards rock so go figure.

@KernelPanic, Welcome, hope your user name is not consistent with a problem you have. We are generally a friendly lot here at SalineOS Forums. I recently got a few lessons in compiling, trying to get my WIFI Dongle to work but, it all came out okay. If you have any problems be sure to let us know.

You can say that again. I tried fedora for a minute and it had so many "stable" updates it tripped and fell. Saline is art.

Saline is for sure an art.
Just keep it as simple as possible. Loading the entire milky way of apps will/can turn it weird.
Load one package at a time, play with it. If it bites you ? Kill it ! ;)
Hey. It's freedom !!!
Altho I hear the TSA is going to Xray all Linux users in the future ???
Lo siento Antonio ;)
Possibly SalineOS will have to become Guanacasteca ! (No more snow!)
