Hey, I used to read your articles in PcLinuxOS magazine. You do not need an introduction, but still you are so humble.
Whereas I am very new to community, and not much active here and an end user, I cannot say 'welcome to the forums'. But I can always say, 'honour to be with you'
I am too stuck in Ubuntu based distro and love XFCE. Saline Os is my first debian based distro and I am liking it.
Generally end users are not much active, but I learn a lot when I post something. Mostly I am active on Mint forums.
cheers
White Lotus

I am parnote, and I'm a registered respiratory therapist in the Kansas City area. I've been a Linux user for the past 6 years or so, and much of the last 5 years with PCLinuxOS. I am an avid Xfce user, and have been the volunteer chief editor of The PCLinuxOS Magazine for the past 3 years. I have used most of the main desktops offered by PCLinuxOS, but my favorite is the Xfce flavor of PCLinuxOS, called Phoenix.
Within the last week, Phoenix is no longer considered an "official" PCLinuxOS release by the powers that be. Currently, only the KDE and LXDE versions of PCLinuxOS are considered "official" releases. As such, I'm searching for a new Xfce home. The maintainer of Phoenix and Phinx (the Xfce-mini release) is looking to rebase, but despite our friendship, I'm not especially fond of his front-runner choice for the new base.
I am impressed with what I've found with SalineOS. You have something very special here. Being used to an RPM based distro (PCLinuxOS), I'm eager to learn my way around a Debian based system, such as SalineOS. I neither want nor need "cutting edge" apps. I prefer, need and want a stable system, and SalineOS appears to deliver exactly that. If I wanted "cutting edge," I'd check out Fedora. Stable trumps cutting edge any time. Leave the bug hunts to someone else. Give me something that works and is proven.

PCLinuxOS uses apt-rpm which is almost identical to its' original cousin here in Debian. You should take to it like a fish does to water.
You do a really good job on the PCLinuxOS magazine over there and I have found myself reading the occasional issue (Usually referenced on a news site or found in a web search). Welcome to the SalineOS forums, it's good to have you here.

Hello parnote! Welcome. It's good to find you here. It's also good to find me here. I've read your magazine for a long time and it includes some of the best documentation I have ever found. Thank you. This is my second post. I registered here on Jan 3, 2011. Here is my first post: “Hi! I'm Alex and I am about to install Saline on another desktop. Be back after the installation. Talk with you later, Alex” That was one year four months and 17 days ago. I must have gotten distracted. Perhaps a bird flying past the window next to my desktop. It doesn't take much. I have read some good things about Saline and today I visited the forum, noticed your name and downloaded a new disc. While reading the new member section I noticed my post. I now have Saline installed. As I said, it's good to find me here. I also have recognized many other user names. Alex

Just signed up today. Been using Linux & occassionally BSD since 1999, (have GhostBSD installed). Slackware was my first, quickly followed by numerous others, settling with Debian serveral years ago. I've always liked live/installable distros, which are now even better on a pendrive. My preference has always been more towards the lightweight desktop, for several years using Fluxbox. So, having found SalineOS, am now giving it a try out.
About me :- I'm 60+, retired, live on the Surrey/Hants border in (Southern) England. I like messing with computers & operating systems; & used to rebuild my old desktops with other peoples' (mainly MS Windows) cast offs. (Now use mainly laptops & netbooks). Other than that, I cycle & walk. (Don't have or want a car!)

Welcome Keith. I feel confident you will fit right in with our Forum. Xfce is a light desktop with a few frills thrown in.

Greetings everyone! I am also from Phoenix, Arizona but currently live in the heart of darkness, Prachinburi Thailand, in a tiny village, in the middle of the jungle. New to Linux in general, have tried a few distros, Ubuntu 12.04, Mint 12 and an attempt at Ultimate Edition on a old (12yr) Pentium 4. Looking for a lightweight distro that will fit my needs, which are minimal. Burning a disc of Saline 1.6 right now to install later today. Looking forward to it.

Banned for being a spammer, though a very bad one since he forgot to properly format the spam link in his signature.

Hi garcarstive Welcome to the community You might find things a bit quite here as SalineOS 1.7 just keeps running so folk don't have problems to ask about.
Love to hear more about you I'm just an old retired grumpy old man who don't understand the simplest of manuals, if you need any help please ask.
