Is it possible to use debian testing to pull newer packages once saline is up and running?

of course, but its kind of risky...

i thought of it myself but gave it up

you'll have to edit the /etc/apt/sources.list and add the servers there

I think some of the debian testing is already added...

dont know what servers you should add, you'll have to find it out some other way...

Possible? Sure. Normally you won't want to run a mix system with stable. Saline is stable + backports.
testing/unstable would be a better choice for a mixed system.

Testing + Unstable = Linux Mint Debian

Give me SalineOS every time.

Actually it doesn't. Aptosid does not use the debian testing repository, only debian unstable.

Personally, I use stable + backports
My point is that it is really not a good idea to mix stable with any other debian release.

Mint on Debian is not quite developed as it should, still much to do.

On the other hand, Aptosid really rocks, have you tried it? Its based on unstable but very stable!!!

;)

@aicardi

I rather have the same, but I used a lot Aptosid and I didnt quit it because it was unstable! Actually it realy worked for me. Everything was very good, starting with screen resolution to anything else... And quite nice support on the forum... Great manual and great translations.

Nope. LMDE only uses the debian testing repository.
From their blog:
Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) is a rolling distribution based on Debian Testing

I like aptosid as well. There is a new fork from aptosid called siduction. I have it on a netbook.

I've heard about it. I know how it happened, I am old user of aptosid. I have it downloaded, but havent tried it yet... Since I'll be using Saline Os i am not hurrying :). But even today, even though its based on Unstable, it is a very rocking distro :)

What is it new on siduction, they dont say it on their blog and since you have it installed... ? A network manager? Package installer?

For the most part it is aptosid with a few spins of their own. Still uses ceni for network.
You can run it live to check it out.
I use Debian stable + backports on our production machine and laptops. One laptop has Saline.
The netbooks I will use Sid, or a respin of Sid eg aptosid, siduction.
I prefer unstable over testing as things do get fixed faster. Not really "fixed" but a newer version. Tings can stay broken in testing longer.

I dont really like Ceni, thought siduction might bring something more friendly...

you have a point there with unstable vs testing...

thanks
