Xandros? We may know each other.. :)
I ran Xandros 2005 to 2008 and posted thousands of posts to it's forums.
When did you leave Xandros?

...Regarding another Old Timer
Yeah my history is similar. 1995 WGS Linux...1996 Slacware96..Caldera..FreeBSD..Debian..1999 Suse..2001 Redhat..2002 SuSe..2005 Xandros/Kubuntu..2008 Debian again..which is where I am today along with Kubuntu and Slackware.
Many long timers are critical of Kubuntu but due to it's simplicity of install I have converted many Friends, and Family to Linux through the Very Windows like Kubuntu.
So, for that reason I am also a Kubuntu advocate. Although I am not a Daily Kubuntu user it is good for the the Linux cause... :D

I was Blammo225 on Xandros forums.
I left Xandros about the time I moved here late 2005.Beta 4 time frame ? I bought a Mac in late 2004,( I needed a laptop while building my houses here) it died in 2005 so a buddy gave me an Ubuntu 8.02 disk( I only had dialup then) and I ran with the Gnome Ubuntus until I found Mint at ?? 7.0 or so when they installed my dsl line.. I started hopping a lot last summer so I played around with Vector,Salix, Mint 9-10, LDME and now Saline. I fell in love with XFCE when using Vector and I like Google*s better than Firefox or Iceweasel. Fast is good.

I've been getting people to convert to mint 10. All you need to do is find a Winbloze 7 Ultimate background image. ;-)~ ???
Just tell them you "tweaked it". ;D

Regarding Xandros.. We probably just missed postings. I joined the forum 9/2005.

Yes, Mint is a very good instant Install. I have installed 8, 9 ,10 Including Debian Mint.
I thought I would use Debian Mint but after the install it Wanted 800 UIpdates ..augghhh
After the Updates the Install was Trashed..Tried 3 times. Got disgusted but found the fix process on the Mint forums later.. I had tried Saline as soon as Andrew offered it and liked it as a LiveCd immediately. However My Squeeze (Debian 6 install) already had both KDE and Xfce desktops installed. Later I relented as Andrew really has taken the all the time to Setup Xfce and Squeeze very nicely. So, I thought why not!

Saline is a very well thought out Debian Xfce Install.

LMDE, if you try it,remove the testing and make the repos squeezed......for a while.
Rolling distros are nice, until you roll into a high speed train.
I hope Clem does an LMDE XFCE version. That will be interesting to compare to what Anthony has done.
For now ? For me ?
Pass the salt, por favor.

BeardedDragon, you need to prod the PC/OS guy to clean up his forum! That is the biggest mess I've ever seen. I tried the distro a couple of years ago and it wasn't too bad, but that forum.....yuck !! I'm sure he knows how that is affecting his distro popularity? I don't get it. Best of luck to him, really. I just happened to see you while breezing around distro watch to see what's what with various distros. I've been pretty busy lately and haven't posted her much lately, but I'm back :)

I have tried, he gives many excuses, wife having baby, trip to Australia and problems with ibiblio not posting his new systems, etc. As for his forum, both the PC/OS forum and the Facebook Fan book for PC/OS are a mess and I seldom go there myself. I am only working here as a moderator and I never volunteered to work for him other than testing which he never gave me a chance with. His own moderator has let things go to the point it is an advertising Forum, not a PC/OS Forum. He seldom answers his E-mails.

Wow. It's the worst I've seen. I mean how long would it take to go thru and clean that up? He seems to be his own worst enemy. That's nuts. :o ;D

Snowlinux is a debian-based free available operating system, that makes using Debian GNU/Linux more easily.

It is based upon Debian Stable Squeeze and uses its repository. It makes many things easier. For example, most-used software like Firefox and Thunderbird are preinstalled. And in the near future the hardware installations tool from Ubuntu will be ported to Snowlinux. And there are many other tweaks, too.
It has Linux-Kernel 2.6.32-5 LTS, GNOME 2.32, XORG, Firefox 3.5.5 and Thunderbird 3.1.0
Home Site and Download at: www.snowlinux.de/ http://snowlinux.de/index.php/blog/4-snowlinux-1-cold-gnome-32-bit-rc-released Available in the following languages: German, German Low, Spanish, French, English, Belgium the primary language being German on the Site. There is a Forum already available.

I think it SMDE (Sado Maso-DE) ... :o ;)

He did. It's worse than the Gnome version ...
As merlwiz79 will not put his knowledge of Xfce, it will have absolutely no interest in my humble opinion.
You take the Gnome version, you add Xfce and you forgot to clean up the Gnome libraries. Voila, you've done LMDEXfce.

@Fanch, one brief comment. Merlwiz79 is participating now and I have to agree, it is still bloated with too much Gnome. This was Clem's project and Merlwiz had his own problems at home to deal with. I'm defending Merlwiz, not LMDE.

Yes, I know, I think the team might wait until Merlwiz be available before to appear this version of LMDE.
One has the impression that they wanted to short-circuit him...

I hope the best for him and his wife. He deserves. ;) :)

I had PCLinuxOS installed here, back with PCLOS 0.92 and PCLOS 2007, but then I got away from it for awhile. Came back to it with PCLOS 2010.07.

Just realized that it's been a little over a year since I installed that version (installed it on August 17, 2010).

It's been very good. Quite impressed. I don't have a favorite distro, but PCLOS is right up there, no question. I've been keeping it completely updated; very few problems to speak of.

One thing I'd like to mention is the apt-sources-update script they have. Under the menu, it's called "Update Package Sources List," but I like to run it from the command line. It checks a bunch of different mirrors and gives you a list of the ones that are working, in order from "fastest" to "slowest." Nice tool. You pick a mirror, it generates a new sources.list, and you can either give the script permission to rewrite your sources.list or you can manually copy it into /etc/apt.

I haven't seen anything like that in other distros; do you folks know of anything else like that?
