Finally succeeded in installing Pure Debian 6.0.2 Been working on it for two days. Who would have thought that the absence of sound would be such a problem, or, the solution would be so easy? Purged gstreamer0.10-alsa then reinstalled it. Started from bare bones and now have almost what is in Anthony's SalineOS. Missing the scripts that make things easy to manage, but, I am confident I can work without them. Makes one appreciate the work he puts into things. Stuck with Xfce, Squeeze Stable and what I could install from Debian. It works. I've tried this before folks and it is no easier now than it was then. SalineOS is still my Number One system. Just dropped PSE and put Debian in it's place.

Hi beardedragon!
First, sorry for my English writing!
I'm interested by your "Pure Debian 6.0.2" experience and I would like to know your "good" repos...
I'm testing a lot of distributions, mainly searching for velocity, debian based distro, XFCE 4.8 if possible and remastersys compatibility.
Last week, I have even tried a E17 Sid version, for the fun and I have installed the new crunchbang and aptosid versions (both very fast).
A few day ago I have installed the new LMDE XFCE and Xubuntu (both are working very well), yesterday peppermint 2 (pretty fast with LXDE) and today I'm testing liquid-lemur b3 (with XFCE 4.8 and Cairo-dock!!!).
It's incredible to see how fast these developers are working!

First, my Good Repos are from Squeeze, See Attached. I'm still using Xfce 4.6.2. If you want a working remastersys you cannot get better than SalineOS. I've been a Distro Hopper for a few years now, but, I settled down after finding SalineOS still try different things when I have the time. Been a faithful user of Cairo-dock for some time. Same with Xfce. I just mentioned Debian 6.0.2 here because it was a major accomplishment for me, I'm more mechanically minded when it comes to computers than system and software.
Started in '85 as a Micro Computer Repair NRI Graduate. Learned what makes it tick. My Google Repo is for Earth, not using Chromium. Came with Iceweasel, added Icedove and a whole lot more.

I prefer to use Chromium, but Chromium from the Squeeze repos is so far behind that I added Google Chrome from the Google site (tweaked it a bit to make it more like Chromium, though).
I don't have much trouble installing Debian. The main reasons I like distros like Saline and Mepis, they're quicker and easier to install, and they have nice live DVDs. Seems like Debian takes me at least twice as long to install and set up. Once installed and set up, I use all three of them mostly about the same.

Yeah, with several shortcuts I've made for myself like a batch installation for Terminal I can set up SalineOS in about two hours if I take my time, less if I have to. Debian I took most of two days while bouncing back and forth to SalineOS for my daily work until everything was set up in Debian. I just wanted the experience so I can say I did it and it works, in case someone asks about Debian outside SalineOS.

Yeah ! ... Hi guys ! ...
my experience with ' Debian 6.o.1 Squeeze ' is about the same ! ... ain't easy to install ... and difficult to configurate .. for your (my) needs ! ...
before I found ' SalineOS ' .. I was looking for ' Debian ' ... of course the ' Gnome-Desktop ' ! ... and what the people were talkin' about ... plenty of applications ... and so on ! ...
but ' SalineOS ' was just much more easyer to install ! ... and ready to play with ! ... fast & stable ! ...
and I gave it a try .. with pure ' Debian 6.o.1 Squeeze ' ! ... to install it on a HDD external box ! ... have it somewhere layin' around .. (don't know where by now) ... of course don't use it ! ... and it's not finish .. to my satisfaction configurated ! ... needs some more work on it ! ... when they have no more problems by the repositories ! ... just did stop this project ! ...
will see what's coming up by the next release ! ...

Anthony has done a great job with SalineOS. I have one problem with it it's all done and nothing much left to do, no challenge. Bin running Debian Sid for the last several months with few problems so now it time for a new challenge maybe Openbox without all that Lmde stuff added to it. Ya know like back in the old days but better hopefully.

That's a "Problem?" More like a "Solution." Now you can keep stable on you machine and go Distro hopping without worry that when you come back to it, it will not have "ERRORS!" I ran LMDE alongside SalineOS and was thankful every time I upgraded LMDE. Something always went wrong, oh, I know they would fix it if you can reboot to begin with. That's what I call a Problem."

LMDE just doesn't seem to be there yet. Maybe that's because I prefer something based on Stable. I was really excited when they first started getting LMDE ready, but as time went by I kept getting the impression that it wasn't gonna be my cup of tea; ended up installing Saline instead. From what I've read at the Mint forums, I don't think LMDE has lived up to everyone's expectations. Still, I figure it'll keep improving.

Something of interest for you oldtimers, (Like Me) Commodore OS is out in Beta 1. What's interesting is what it's based on. See if you can figure it out from this screen shot:

@murdock, interesting observation, Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words, in this picture I can only think of one four letter word that would suffice. LOL
