 Problems with qt4-fsarchiver GUI (solved)
« Thread Started on Dec 27, 2011, 2:53am »

There's a thread going on about qt4-fsarchiver a gui for fsarchiver at http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=197&t=89189
That I've been busy at.

One of the things you need is a live cd to do a restore from so i've started to put one together but it's not based on saline yet as i can't get down to a cd size with the little darling

Sample qt4-fsarchiver restore iso snapshot-20111224_2005-uk-keyboard.iso It's using a debian stable base but a different installer if you install it.

I am thinking about removing the menu?

I think it the qt4-fsarchiver iso might be an excellent way to put saline in front of a lot of ubuntu/mint users.

I've been playing with custom menus for xfce for the last 3 or 4 months. I put some together and found they were the first thing I put on a new install of any xfce distro i make they make life so easy.

I was going to put one on the restore iso but i'm having a

I can't get ~/ to work in a .menu file
Code:
<AppDir>~/xfce-menus/applications/</AppDir>

Any help appreciated.

Just come across a very unusual web page based distro installer on this one http://siduction.org/ I better go back to installing it on the other machine, it just threw me so i broke off.

i'm rambling after a long night

@ukbrian,

I installed siduction on a partition yesterday with their php installer.
Only problem I had was caused by bad media. Changed media for the iso and it worked fine. :)

I'm a sidux refugee and couldn't resist rolling aboard siduction xfce 4.8. It promises a better [community] experience [than sidux did].
I really appreciate the speed and stability of SalineOS but love to dabble on the edge.

I have a need for an up to date OpenShot video editor so I have been trying out avlinux but it's lxde so I really miss my xfce custom menus, another thing is the remastersys installer where you can't tell which drive to add grub to the MBR of, it just writes it to sda.

I agree with his update philosophy of it's working don't update.(badly expressed but I'm tired after another long stint)

I'm also been toying with xubuntu and it's been handling everything i chuck at it but i think i would prefer a pure debian

When the html siduction installer came up it shocked me, very unexpected screen form and I left it for ages and then decided to do the install when i'm more alert. So Siduction will be tried on another day.

I read a lot of folk stating that Sid is a less troublesome install than following testing but you gotta be careful of fan boy recommendations.

I took a shine to LMDE when it came out and until testing came out of it's freeze I was happy but then it was to much maintaining.

I decided i wanted my every day workhorse to be based on stable so saline hit the spot and I have no regrets I first used remastersys when I tried out ultimate and was very pleased until ext4 and grub2 came out and it wasn't updated, understandable so tho.

The changes Anthony has made to the remastersys installer is truly awesome, I think he must have rewritten most of the script.

I would like to chime in on a couple things. Firstly, that I am not surprised by the use of php to create an installer. It isn't too difficult to use php as a graphical toolkit and pass all the input from it to the bash shell and back again.

Secondly, that though I have made a lot of changes to the Remastersys installer since forking it, that most of them are a simply copy and paste away from working with the original. To fix the lack of options in the AVLinux installer, you could install Grub to root and then use my grub-doctor script to install grub wherever you want.

I think your very modest, I don't understand why fragadelic and avlinux don't add your changes.

I'm having problems getting qt4-fsarchiver to run on salineos and I don't think it's me, I've had it running on another Squeeze based install.

Nothing happens when I click on the menu entry and when I run qt4-fsarchiver as root in the terminal I get
Code:
Qt: Session management error: Authentication Rejected,
reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed
I get this in my regular install and in the cut down version I am trying to get a cd snapshot of for a qt4-fsarchiver rescue/restore iso from.

I think qt4-fsarchiver might be a very worth while addition to SalineOS but the gui is very crude but functional (it's under development) and the guys on this thread are having problems with the language on the rescue CD that's provided http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewforum.php?f=141

Try adding your user to the sudo group and launch gt4-fsarchiver with sudo.

Open a root terminal through Applications > Accessories or using the su command and issue this command:

gpasswd -a username sudo

Replace username with the username you have setup on the machine.

I can't believe I missed the permissions thing, running to many versions.

I think this error might help
Quote:
me@500-saline:~$ sudo qt4-fsarchiver
qt4-fsarchiver: error while loading shared libraries: liblzma.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

You are missing a dependency that provides the liblzma shared library. Looking through available packages I would try this:
aptitude install liblzma-dev python-lzma xzdec

If that doesn't work your next move is to find a dependency list of qt4-fsarchiver and make sure you have everything. If the developers don't have a list of dependencies you need to ask them for one.

You're the man :)
I added the dependancies as you suggested but still no joy
So I removed the qt4-fsarchiver with Synaptic, rebooted, reinstalled the app and it runs OK. :)
