having a weird problem. for some reason now when I go to Google.com I can't close the "Install Google Chrome window. the close button is greyed out. this is the second distro where this is happening. the other isn't Debian based. I have oodles of other distros plus mac and windows installs where it doesn't happen. any thoughts?

I think the best you can do is to use adblockplus & add a custom filter in the preferences, filter preferences, custom filters dialog window. ||google.com/* will give you this:

yes, I can use adblock to get rid of the issue but I don't know why only a few distros have the problem.

It's not a problem as much as it is an annoyance to me.

it turns out the problem with "Install Google Chrome" goes away on it's own if you refresh the page a number of times. I guess Google doesn't want to be TOO annoying.

The install button will not go away on its own. It will go away if you enable cookies, click "Dismiss" and then don't delete your cookies when you exit Firefox. If you delete cookies, it will reappear when you restart Firefox. If you want to get rid of it for good, install the "Remove It Permanently" Firefox extension. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/remove-it-permanently/

I beg to differ. first of all I have/had cookies enabled. I couldn't dismiss the window at all because it was greyed out. I have cookies set to "save until expired" because I go to so many sites which I don't want to have to resign in or set settings for. but the "Remove It Permanently" suggestion is a good one.
