data recovery app?

My colleague is using windows and the man befire him deleted some very important documents, can you reccomend a software for data recovery that can be run from linux (either from Saline live cd or even installed as OS nr, 2), for him to retrieve data from ntfs? One time that man had linux mint, so I think the documents were copied to an ext4 partition... Does it count if ntfs or ext?

Can you help?

Stop using it! very important!

Before doing anything!
Make/take an image of the drive as it is using the macrium iso I will PM you.
Every time you use the OS will decrease the chances of you recovering your data.

I would truly expect but might be wrong that you will find the best recovery software is windows based.

A good starting point would be to put "data recovery" into thepiratebay(TPB) and look for a poster that has a green or purple icon by their names, it means they are trusted.
This one looks OK but I've never used the software http://thepiratebay dot se/torrent/6932844/Wondershare.Data dot Recovery.v4.0.0.Incl.Keymaker-CORE replace the "dot"'s with "." and remove the spaces

I'm uploading the macrium iso now and I will add further info to help you later but I must think about it, most important the you make a backup image very quickly

Testdisk/photorec is pretty good data recovery software. Available in both Linux and Windows format. Don't know about a Debian package, but I'd be suprised if thee isn't one.

It's in many boot discs. I like r-studio myself. Though I have never ran it under linux it is free with both debs and rpm's!
