 Firefox 4.0
« Thread Started on Mar 22, 2011, 6:48pm »

Since the internet is abuzz with the release of Firefox 4.0 I have built .deb packages using the Firefox 4.0 tarball from Mozilla.org. You can download them here:

32 bit
http://www.salineos.com/Downloads/FireFox_4.0_i386.deb
64 bit
http://www.salineos.com/Downloads/FireFox_4.0_AMD64.deb

Split into two packages as Firefox needs some 32 bit libraries to run on 64 bit machines. GDebi will install these for you when you install the package. If you were running 64 bit and couldn't get Firefox to run from the tarball it was because of a missing 32 bit library supplied by the package ia32-libs-gtk

You will have to logout and back in again for the menu entry to appear (In the applications menu). You can use the built in update tool to keep it up to date as the .deb packages properly configure write permissions to the folder. Finally, you can create a launcher on the desktop or panel using the Xfce Application finder.

To create a launcher on the desktop:
1. Go to Applications > Accessories > Application Finder
2. Right click on the desktop and click create launcher. Drag and drop the FireFox entry from the Application finder window to the launcher creation window.

To create a launcher on the panel:
1. Go to Applications > Accessories > Application Finder
2. Right click on the desired panel and click Add New Items...
3. Highlight Launcher and click Add.
4. A launcher creation window will pop-up just drag and drop the entry in the Application Finder window to the launcher creation window.
