Well, sound like I have some luck with your help :)

on terminal, command xsane shows error
Failed to open device 'brother3:bus1;dev1':invalid argument.

just try run command xsane on root, got a warning, but it runs ;D

so the image on scanner comes to the computer, first time success doing it on Linux OS :)

Now I have not yet learned how to navigate on saving image... got to read menual and try more luck.

thanks for the help

You may need to add your user to group scanner for it to work as a user.

Code:
gksu addgroup 'your-user-name' scanner

Actually the correct way to add users to groups is slightly different in newer Debian versions. This is the exact method that should be used as of the release of Squeeze.

Login as root then :
gpasswd -a USER GROUP
replace user with your username and group with the group name.
id yourusername will allow you to verify changes

I have contacted Frag about the default groups in his installer. If he does not accept my patches I will be applying them manually for the 1.2 image builds.

Well darn! But I know su -c 'nano /etc/group' will work just fine after you log out and back in. I never was any good at keeping up with all those commands or maybe it's that I spent to much time in LFS. :(

Edit Some day that stuff will bite me in the tush.

This actually caught me during the beta builds of SalineOS. Other older ways of adding users to groups don't work properly anymore. Why the change I am not sure, but yes nano will do it ... If you are into that kind of thing ;D

I would say a command included by default not working is a bug, a minor bug but one that drive you nuts trying to figure out why it won't work.

It may just work its been quite some time since the last time I tried it. Far as I can tell gpasswd is the recommended command to use. This will be the one I will use on all my forum posts for consistency sake, even though there are a half a dozen ways to accomplish this.
