Hi, I am helping a friend on a older PIII-900 Mhz, 512MB RAM machines.
He liked SalineOS but there is one problem. The sound card (SB Live! Value CT4871) and is using AlsaMixer v1.0.23.
For the heck of it, I installed another favorite distro, Linux Mint 10 LXDE on it. There was no noise. It also uses AlsaMixer v1.0.23. I wrote down all the settings from it and made sure the SalineOS also has the same settings but the noise is still there.
Thanks,

The most likely reason for this is that SalineOS currently does not include Pulse audio. You could try installing it with the instructions located here: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=12497

Thanks.
I think you are right because I tried Linux Mint Debian XFCE and got the same white noise.
So he decided to stay with Linux Mint 10 LXDE for now. On that particular machine, SalineOS performed a little faster than LM10 LXDE. However, LM10 LXDE had better proprietary hardware support. The "additional driver" feature in it and all Ubuntu distros is very nice.
BTW, the weather plugin has not been working since weather.com changed their business model. There is a working version in sid now. Is there anyway for us to have that as well?
LMDE, being a rolling release, has the update now.
Thanks again.
