 Synaptic Package Manager
« Thread Started on Mar 8, 2011, 7:56am »

I have installed Saline OS in Virtual Box.

When I click on Synaptic Package Manger it asks for my root password, I enter it correctly & nothing happens next.

I assume you are using the shell image? If so Synaptic isn't exactly installed yet, this is all covered in the user manual. To shorten it a bit you can install the rest of the default applications by opening a terminal and entering the command: gksu complete

Thanks, for the help.

But, I am disappointed that it is downloading the full Open Office when I only need Abiword.

Open Office is the default Office software. You could remove it and replace it with Abiword using Synaptic..

I agree with you but Debian makes Open Office it default. I always un-install it and install Abiword too.
