Installtion of multimedia support after the instal
« Thread Started on Apr 10, 2012, 3:43am »

I'm still having problems with the dc7700 that I mentioned. Everything looks to be working, and it is now updated. However, it appears that the multimedia codecs didn't install during the install. I can't play an mp3 file, and I can't play a DVD.

How can I install the multimedia packages after the install?

Paul.

as root, in a console, while online:
# installrestrictedmultimedia

[it's in /usr/local/bin along with the AutoUpdate script. rh.]

:) Thanks, should have looked there.

That seems to have fixed it, though it looks as though something has changed - just did a fresh install on another dc7700 (the client that has that machine managed to kill the install completely). While that machine had no problems with the multi-media install last time I installed to it, this time I had to run 'dpkg --configure -a' and then fix packages, and follow that up by running installrestricedmultimedia as well.

Could be. Anthony has been moving some things in preparation for Sos-2.0.
I may have overlooked something.
Glad it's working again for you. :)

:) I've checked both mp3 and a Toppfield .rec file, both work. Though I did notice when I ran a synaptic update, it picked up several updates that looked as though they were all multimedia related.
