This is an excellent take on Debian stable. I began running the live distro on a USB stick, tested, changed, installed packages until I was satisfied that I could use it, then wiped ubuntu 10.04 and installed it for real. Now I boot faster, have more useable RAM, more available CPU cycles, a no-frills desktop, all the applications I need, and plenty of new challenges as I begin to customize the user interface.

It's hard to believe that one person can make such a good linux distro. Thanks for all your work, Andrew -- it looks like v2 will be even better.

It is quite alright :) You are correct 2.0 is looking to be a big leap forward from 1.x, but I still got lots of work to do. Sometimes I wish there were about 4 of me ???

Hello friends,

I've been looking really hard for a replacement of my Ubuntu 8.10 and 10.4 systems. I always liked Gnome but I've settled on Xfce for sure. Started going down the Distrowatch list trying to stay with Debian bases, but have also tried Slackware distro's. Couldn't believe how ssllloooowww Xubuntu was, what gives with that. Down the list I went. Found SalineOS today at 83 or 84 I believe. Well all I can say is the Distrowatch list must be upside down!

You have put together a wonderful and fast system. Basing it on Debian stable is brilliant. Thank you! SalineOS is exactly what I've been looking for.

Doug
