PCLinuxOS Openbox Bonsai (mini.) At 261 MB, it's the smallest PCLOS .iso but it's cool. You get a minimalist Openbox install, no frills, not even graphics drivers by default. You get the usual PCLOS configuration stuff and Midori as a web browser. The rest is pretty much up to you to install. I installed it, got the latest Nvidia driver from the Nvidia site, killed the xserver and installed that and I've been adding programs. I have Chromium installed, Xscreensaver and Tint2. For some reason, the person in charge of this release included lxpanel instead of tint2, but I fixed that. You can't get too much more minimalist than Openbox and still have a desktop (maybe IceWM or something similar) and I find Openbox to be simplicity itself to customize. Most everything can be tweaked simply by editing some text files in your /home folder. Simple stuff, I like this one even better than their LXDE mini release. ;D

Don't dislocate your shoulder patting yourself on the back. :P Seriously, that's cool. Whether or not it was called "Bonsai," I think I'd have liked it anyway. I love PCLOS and I've now tried all of the desktops they offer and Openbox is my favorite. The mini versions are my favorite because I usually don't like the apps that come with a distro by default. I usually leave some but mostly remove a bunch of stuff, even on a lot of "small" distros like Peppermint.

And, no, I couldn't remember who at the Peppermint forums asked Kendall about Mint 10 Fluxbox. Sure, I could have gone back over there and found it but that's not how I roll (too much work. :P)

I follow Kendall and Shane on Twitter, which brings me to a question:

Anthony, do you yet have a twitter account to announce things SalineOS?

Anyway, some of you may have seen Shane post the other day an "IT (support) ALERT: A total ban on Rednecks using MS Outlook".

Funny stuff :P ;D

Currently running AntiX 8.2, Puppy 5.2 and Saline on this laptop. I have Ubuntu 10.04 on another one, and AntiX 8.5-486 on an old Compaq. I have Slitaz running on an old K6. I haven't run an rpm-based distro since Suse 9.3. I run other distros as live cd's and if I find one I like I may install it with Ubuntu, but haven't seen anything I was that interested in lately. Everytime I have installed a distro based on Slackware, I seem to end up with login problems, so currently I have no Slack distros running.

Yeah, the menu isn't consumer friendly.

I have an MSI Wind netbook my daughter was using JoliCloud on it because Meego had a wireless problem (she's nuts about MeeGo). I went to put SalineOS 32 bit on it for myself as she doesn't want it anymore, and I couldn't get that funky realtek wireless to light up.

I'm thinking about putting Mint Fluxbox on it, or Peppermint LXDE where I know the wireless will work first boot up. I tried Puppy Lucid because I like Puppy and same wireless problems so I don't want to richard around with modules/fireware/drivers etc.....

Given that, what would you guys recommend to run on this netbook with a low overhead? Antix I believe will have the same problems with wireless....am I stuck with a 'buntu clone?

thanks :'( :P
