 XFCe panels gone...
« Thread Started on Aug 4, 2012, 5:04pm »

I have a customer with learning difficulties, and not much short term memory, so he has no idea what he might have done....

Last time I checked the system out, both the top and bottom panels have gone, and selecting 'panel' from the Xfce settings menu does nothing. The rest of the system seems fine - right click menu is working and I didn't encounter any programs that weren't running. Just the panels.

I'm sure I've seen something similar in the past, but can't remember what I did to cure it. Any suggestions?

Paul.

I think I have seen something similar.
Try executing the following in a terminal:
xfce4-panel
I think that's what I did. Look for a small, small window when the panel starts, and then reconfigure the panel or panels.

Hi !

Panels are gone!

If the panel is gone for a reason other than voluntarily set autohide, ie if it does not reappear by passing the pointer over it, you can type in the launcher program :
xfce4-panel
to get it back.

if you type this command in a terminal, the panel re-disappears at the close of the terminal.

You can also do this by alt + F2 and typing xfce4-panel.
:) ;)

Thanks. I'll try that next time I get out to see him.
